Group B #1 Cameroon - Angola 3:1(2:1)
An entertaining match confirmed why Angola qualified for Germany and in the same moment in what department their problems are.
The team is well organised and the ball circulates fast. Angolas player keep the ball for significantly less touches than Cameroon's. Stikk the players achieve a high accuracy.
This style requires a lot of running. which becomes a problem when Angolas players face opponents from leagues with high physical standards.
Cameroon confirmed recent strengths and weaknesses: In the days before the match rumours circulated about a strike threat of the coach team over unpaid wages.
The team is able to force goals when they gear up the pace. But a new desease lets the lions lose grip when they take a 1:0 lead. In several games recently they allowed their opponents back into the game and to euqalize. Not different against Angola.
Both teams and especially Angola with their fluent passing game, profited from the much better pitch than in the Côte d'Ivoire Morocco game.
It was Samuel Eto'o who gave the lead to cameroon by a terrific free kick. Angola equalized by a penalty after the sent through Akwa had been fouled by the Cameroon keper.
Cameroon retook the lead when they speeded up and Eto'o came from behind to run into a well timed Douala cross.
Both teams had alternating strong passages, among the goal scenes a spectacular bycicle kick by Akwa (wide left).
After 75 minutes, like in the first half, Angola looked a bit tired and gave more space to cameroon. This resulted in Eto'o unchallenged 20 meters to the goal. He did not hesistate and fired into the far corner - 3:1
Conspicious as well the Cameroon keeper. It was again Souleymanou who is preferred to Kameni by Arthur Jorge.Apart from the penalty he had a solid game and one spectacular scene, when he NFL-quarterback like after intercepting a cross quickly threw tha ball for about 60 meters into attack to Webo who had escaped his defender and would have run unchallenged towards the keeper - unfortunately ruled offside.
