quarterfinal #4 Cameroun - Côte d'Ivoire 1:1(0:0)(0:0) n.V. , E: 11:12
After a match in which the two sides neutralized each other except from a sudden eruption in extra-time. A penalty shoot-out to remember rounded up what was a tough battle of two African giants on the same level.

1st half:
A tough match from the beginning. Both had one single big chance after errors from defenders.
Added to it Côte d'Ivoire had two unsuccessful free kick situations and Cameroon had a shy quest for a penalty after a contact but the referee judged no foul.
The Ivorian defence again looked rather odd at the few dangerous crosses.
The rest was neutralization on intense level.
2nd half:
Both teams continued cutting down spaces and playing without urgency when in possession.
Côte d'Ivoire only half dangerous with long balls on Drogba.
The first half chance came only after 71 Minutes at an Ivorian corner, the first flash of the potential brilliance of the elefants were not to be seen before the 77th minute.
Anyway it seemed the right strategy as Cameroon did hardly have opportunities and the Ivorians were very gaining more momentum, though in very little portions.
But short to the end of the regular 90 minutes Côte d'Ivoire drew further back to reach the extra time, which almost proved a mistake.
But then Côte d'Ivoire attacked quickly in extra time and scored immediately when Bakari Kone converted a rebound from crossbar in style. Cameroon responded immediately with Geremi hitting the crossbar for the lions. The lions were capable to create more and equalized already in the 96th minute through Ze Meyong, after a high ball on the penalty spot.
Increasingly the Ivorian defence was opened up by diagonal balls on Douala who lured on the right wing. Drogba on the other side was shoved a little when heading for a long ball, but here also the referee was clear about giving no penalty.
Then the match calmed down until the 118th minute , when Romaric had a chance on the break for the Côte d'Ivoire, sent by Bakari Kone.
An epic shoot-out saw a record successive 22 converted penalties (although one was ordered to be retaken after being saved by Tizie). Eventually the first Cameroon player who had to shoot a second time, failed, and Drogba secured the semi final for the Ivorians.
